2. Additional Notes and Errata

While presenting I said multiple times that using the PTW method to crack WEPs, 5000 IVs would give a 50% chance of a successful crack. I was incorrect however, as that number is actually 40000 IVs, which is significantly higher. The GTwireless WEP was successfully cracked with 35000 IVs, but it takes a randomly varying number of IVs to crack each time.

The article published by has a pretty graph of success rate versus available IVs. The article is available here and the graph is shown below.



During the presentation (and in the slides), only the aircrack-ng suite of tools was used. There are certainly other tools available, but aircrack-ng performs both the WEP cracking and WPA-PSK cracking correctly.
